Austin UPDATE

We had another follow up appointment with Dr. Neubrander about Austin's current treatment last week. We had two more tests done to get some answers on some gastrointestinal problems Austin has been suffering from for quite some time so we were anxious to get the results back. The 1st test showed that Austin has yeast overgrowth in his intestinal track that needs to be treated immediately. THANKFULLY, the doctor didn't feel it was severe enough to warrant prescriptive anti-fungals so we will be going a natural route. It really comforts Casey and me to know that Dr. Neubrander is NOT a drug-pushing physician that treats everyone's symptoms and challenges the same. He understands and fully recognizes that there is no cookie-cutter protocol for treating children with autism, and that every case is different and unique and needs to be looked at with caution. WE LOVE YOU, DR. NEUBRANDER! :)

The 2nd test showed that Austin's digestive system is not absorbing foods the way it should. That test also showed that Austin does not have sufficient amounts of the good bacteria in his intestinal tract. This can also be treated by the use of digestive enzymes and probiotics.

We have increased to daily MB12 shots and will be starting a new medicine that should help with some of Austin's visual stemming. Overall Austin is doing REALLY well. We are seeing an increase in him repeating vocabulary and some functionally language in spurts.

School starts back up after Labor Day and we are really looking forward to Austin getting back into his routine (I think Austin is looking forward to going back too).

Well...I couldn't end a blog without cute pictures of Austin to go with it. So here is your Austin-fix! :)

Austin is learning to say "CHEESE!" when I take a picture of him. How Cute!!! :)
