Latest Update

So we had another follow-up phone consult with Dr. Neubrander this past Thursday and got more information and news. For the past 6 weeks Austin has been receiving MB12 shots everyday and this--along with his other treatments--has made a tremendous difference in several areas. Austin will continue this treatment for the next 2.5 to 4 years, and then we'll see about reducing the frequency. Some kids can get off MB12 altogether, whereas others need to stay on it at some rate indefinitely. We will find out what category Austin fits into when that time comes.

We are still in the process of trying to improve Austin's GI system and help it to function more efficiently so we will being trying some new supplements to address that. Praise God that it has improved over the past 6 weeks but is still not where it needs to be.

We also will be testing Austin for additional food sensitivities as well as for airborne allergies. We need to rule out that we are not missing any other foods that could be contributing to the inflammation in his body. We have been noticing some things with Austin recently that leads us to believe that he most likely is suffering from some kind of environmental allergy, including the dark circles that come and go under his eyes that result from inflammation around eyes. On a related note, Dr. Neubrander showed us some interesting data that showed patterns of regressive behavior in autistic and ADHD kids compared to weed pollen counts throughout the year--the graphs are almost identical.

Overall, Dr. Neubrander is pleased with Austin's response to the treatment so far, and so are we. The doctor was very careful not to predict how Austin will respond over the long term, but he was very encouraged that Austin's age and response rate--when compared to the thousands of kids he's treated--suggest good long-term prospects.

We are so blessed to have learned about Dr. Neubrander and are fortunate that we are able to see him and take advantage of his services. I know that there are MANY parents out there who, due to certain circumstances, cannot have their autistic child treated by a DAN! doctor, especially one so deeply knowledgeable about all the latest treatments and the complex interactions in the body. We are so blessed!
