Today was the last day of Austin's summer school so he has a little over 3 weeks of break until the new school year starts after Labor Day. The summer session was great and there were a few new boys in the class (only for the summer) which made for a fun and exciting class.
Austin's teachers had a small party today where they invited all the kids' parents to come to school for a small "Field Day" and snacks afterwards. Austin had a good time and ran around all over the place.
With the new school year brings new change for Austin. First, Austin's teacher, Ms. Ashley, has decided to return to her hometown of Buffalo, NY so her last day was today and a new teacher will be filling her spot. Second, with where Austin's birthday falls (Sept 16) he is only eligible for PAC for this next school year and summer session before he will be moving on to the Enhanced Autism Class for Kindergartners. Here in VA (Fairfax County) if you turn 5 before Sept 30th you begin K. And since we receive services through the school system, we do not have the option of repeating another year of PAC. More than likely what will happen is Austin will repeat K twice in order to better fit his needs at this time. So...with Ms. Ashley not returning and the BIG change of K right around the corner we decided that we should go ahead and be preparing Austin for the stresses that change and abnormal routine might cause him. Therefore, Austin will be switching to the other PAC class with Ms. Sarah starting this year. We are excited about this change and know that any new teacher is going to teach you in a new and different way and it is important that Austin learn from different styles of teaching and that he not rely on one way. We are also sad b/c Austin has become quite attached to Ms. Jennette (one of his Instructional Assistants) and he won't be seeing her everyday anymore. But she has promised me that she will work with Ms. Sarah and have a reward system for Austin to go over and play with her when he has completed certain tasks. :)
The pictures are from today's festivities! ENJOY! :)
