Austin is "Count Drakula"

No...not really! :) We were able to catch Austin counting (and coloring) while out to dinner on our trip in Texas. It is amazing to see how far his articulation has come in the last few months. The words he can say are quite clear now and very recognizable.

Austin will be (in addition to his autism preschool) starting private speech therapy next week. Casey and I both feel that it is so important to capitalize on the gains we have been seeing in the last few weeks and get him added assistance so as not to miss any opportunity. Austin will attend speech therapy twice a week after school and will probably continue this schedule for the next several years in order to (hopefully) get him up to the level of his peers. Also, his Speech and Language Pathologist will evaluate him for AIT (Auditory Integration Training) to see if he is a good candidate for it. AIT is treatment designed to normalize hearing and the ways that the brain processes auditory information. Many times children with autism have distortions in hearing and auditory processing that contributes to behavioral and/or learning disorders. If you are interested in more info you can check out this website.

Overall, Austin is doing GREAT! And we are continuing to push "full steam ahead" with all of our treatments and therapies. We know God has his hand on our family and we are moving in the right directions. :)
