Today was our last day of swimming for the summer. The pool closes tomorrow evening with a HUGE neighborhood party so we decided to get our last bit of summer swimming in today.
This summer presented a whole new set of challenges and issues for Austin. You see...Austin has always been "one with the water." It was like he was born to be a water baby. Austin has loved swimming and being at the pool since we took him for his very 1st time. But this year Austin seemed to be much more cautious and scared with different aspects of the swimming pool.
#1 -- Austin would only stay in the tiny, roped-off area that is less than 3 ft deep. Every time we asked him to go in the deeper parts of the pool, it elicited a stark "NO!" followed by Austin escaping out of the pool as fast as he could. Any time I "forced the issue and carried him past the roped area, he demanded to go back to dry land.
#2 -- Austin would not jump into the pool...even in the shallow end. It took several visits for him to begin jumping in with the assistance from me or Casey holding his hands. This never much progressed all summer but at least he was jumping in.
Today was a complete surprise!!! See for yourself!!! :)
I don't know what got into him but we'll take it! So proud of my boy! :)
He went past the rope!!!!
