Guess what???...WE'RE NOT CRAZY!

This past week we were finally able to get the results back from Austin's GI procedures from Dr. Krigsman.  This is something we have been anxiously waiting on so we were glad that the day was here.

The first thing out of Dr. K's mouth was, "Good news! You're not crazy!"

The pill cam study diagnosed Austin with having Enteritis (inflammation of the small intestine) and the biopsies confirmed that Austin also has Colitis (inflammation of the large intestine and colon).  Both of these conditions are autoimmune related in Austin.  Dr. K's job now is to bring this GI disease into remission and then keep it there.

We started Austin on two different steroids this week.  One we will be on for 2 months that comes with some side effects.  :/  And the other we will be on from about 4-6 months.  Thankfully all the side effects go away once the steroid is discontinued.  Austin has only been on the new meds for a day or two but we are already noticing some irritability and moodiness.  We also expect to have some sleep disturbances since Austin has sleep issues anyway.  Dr. K is quite confident that by the end of these meds we will see marketable improvement in Austin's GI issues.

We are SO THANKFUL!  It is so gratifying to finally be validated that our son does have GI disease.  No doctors before Dr. N or Dr. K would ever take our concerns as something serious to investigate and solve.  The tons of testing we have done for the last several years never showed any "major" issues.  Once we made the decision to go forward with more extreme testing measures this is when we finally got an answer.  The fact is Austin has GI disease that is treatable and he will no longer be in pain!  :)
