Another New School Year

Today begins yet another school year for Austin.  But today marks a significant milestone in his life (and the life off Casey and myself).  Austin "technically" begins Kindergarten today!  :)  At Austin's school there are no grade levels or designated classes because everyone receives one-on-one, individualized therapy/schooling.  But today Austin's therapists will begin exposing him to their Kindergarten level curriculum.  Pretty cool!

Austin's school also is VERY small...like only accept up to 12 students small.  Since we've been attending (April 2012) there have only been 4 students and Austin was the youngest.  Today there are 4 new students starting and they are all 5 and 6 year olds.  This is significant in that when Austin is working on social skills and interactions he will be able to do this with age appropriate peers.  They may be more advanced developmentally than Austin (I have no idea) but they are his age and it is important for Austin to learn how to play and interact with his peers vs. adults (who he tends to interact with more).

We've been on a 2 week break from school though Austin's school is a year round program.  When we dropped him off today he was so excited (especially when he saw his favorite therapist).  :)  We are all glad to be back in our normal routine!
